NJ Senate Bill 1872, known as the “Opportunity Scholarship Act” is a “backdoor school voucher”.

Instead of the Government directly giving a “voucher” to a student to attend a private/parochial school, a corporation contributes money to a school scholarship fund, and is then given a tax credit.

The result is the same. The money comes out of our Public School System, which needs every dollar they can get and our tax dollars also end up paying for religious schools, which is a direct violation of the Establishment Clause of the Constitution, which has been supported and upheld by the Supreme Court time and time again.

For every dollar the government grants as a tax credit, it loses revenue, dollar for dollar which will result in hundreds of millions of dollars over the next several years. In addition, millions will be spent administering the cost of this program.

NJ Governor Christie has long been known as a proponent of school vouchers and this is simply a scheme to provide them and we need your help to stop this.

Please call your Representative and express your opposition to this bill.

Thank you.
